Once again featuring Kazuma Kiryu as the main protagonist, the game also stars Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama, Haruka and newcomer Tatsuo Shinada.
Tatsuo Shinada is a former baseball player who was wrongly banned from the game for gambling, reports Andriasang. He is said to be struggling with debt.
The game is loosely scheduled for a December release for the PS3 in Japan. It has received double the development time of previous instalments and is 70% complete.
Last year, it was revealed that Yakuza 5 will take place in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, Sapporo and Nagoya.
The game will provide a seamless transition between adventure mode and battles, while the camera system, loading times and character facial technology have all been improved.
The plot, meanwhile, will follow directly on from Yakuza 4, as opposed to zombie-based spinoff Yakuza: Dead Souls.
Yakuza 5 was confirmed by series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi last year.
It will be developed by Nagoshi's Yakuza Studio, which recently completed work on Sega's squad-based shooter Binary Domain.
