Version 1.6 will be a free update and also includes a range of quest and general bug fixes, a full list of which can be found at Bethesda's blog.

There is no release date set for when the update will arrive on consoles, but users on PC can play it now if they opt in to the beta through Steam. To opt in for the beta, users need to go to the Account tab in Settings and choose to change their beta participation option to include the 'Skyrim Beta'.

Bethesda has previously updated Skyrim to provide improved kill cameras and to add Kinect support to the Xbox 360 version.

The game's first expansion, 'Dawnguard', has been announced and will be revealed in more detail at E3 2012.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November. It was named as the fastest-selling PC game on digital distribution service Steam.
