Producer Yuji Kurekado told Game Trailers that the game will welcome new characters and missions after its release.
"We do have plans for some download content after the release from the game that will allow you to play maybe as a different character or some new missions," Kurekado explained.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was officially unveiled at last year's Spike TV Video Game Awards, although the announcement trailer was leaked before the event.
Developed by Bayonetta and Vanquish studio Platinum Games, the game stars Raiden and features fast-paced hack-and-slash gameplay.
A trailer was shown during the E3 Gaming Expo, which revealed an early 2013 release date.
