A new teaser trailer reveals an August 28 release date for both Europe and North America.
The brief, but dramatic Guild Wars 2 trailer also showcases some of the game's factions, enemies and locations.
"We're offering gamers an experience that delivers on the promise of online gaming with a truly social experience in an immense, shared world," explained ArenaNet president Mike O'Brien.
"After five years of creation, development, and polish, announcing the launch date of Guild Wars 2 is a huge milestone for us, but the thing we're most looking forward to is seeing gamers from all over the globe explore this world and begin creating their own stories," he added.
Also revealed was the date of the game's final beta weekend, which will take place from July 20 until July 22.
Beta weekends are open to pre-order customers. The first one took place at the end of April.
The long-awaited sequel to Guild Wars was announced in 2007. The game has been hit with numerous delays in the five years since it was unveiled.
Set in Tyria, which is on the verge of an industrial revolution, it takes place 250 years after the defeat of the Great Destroyer in the original game's Eye of the North expansion.
There are five races available to each player, as well as multiplayer battles involving up to 400 participants.
Guild Wars 2 is due to be released for the PC later this year.
