Nintendo 3DS XL UK price round-up: Where's cheapest?

By
Zavvi, Asda, Gamestop and The Hut are among the cheapest places to buy a Nintendo 3DS XL at launch, it has emerged.

Nintendo's updated 3DS is available to purchase in Europe today, ahead of its North American release on August 19.
The platform holder has allowed retailers to set their own prices, which range from £167.95 in Zavvi and The Hut, to £179.99 in the likes of GAME, HMV and Blockbuster.

GAME and Gamestop are offering the console for £79.99 when trading in a boxed 3DS, however.

GAME's deal, which lasts until August 9, includes an AC adaptor - which is not included with standard 3DS XL's - and a 24-hour period to perform a system data transfer.

Other stores, such as HMV, are offering bundles with games and AC adaptors, while Sainsbury's is reportedly selling the device for £161 to customers who sign up to a new account and use the voucher code SETENJ12.

The 3DS XL price round-up in full (price low-high):

  • Zavvi : £167.95

  • Asda : £169.00
  • GameStop : £169.97

Announced last month, the 3DS XL gives players a total of 90% more screen space.

The battery lasts between 3.5 and 6.5 hours when playing 3DS games and between 6 and 10 hours when playing original DS software.

Players will be able to transfer all account information, Play Coins, StreetPass Data, unlocked hats and Activity Logs to the new device, but will need their original 3DS to do so.

It will also come with a 4GB SD card, compared to the 2GB that ships with the original.
