Players can unlock two items, the Pauldron of the Horsemen armour and Chaos Fang scythe weapon.
Pauldron of the Horsemen is a piece of level five legendary armour, which boosts all of Death's stats and provides a boost to critical damage. It can be unlocked by any user who played the original Darksiders.
Chaos Fang is a level one legendary weapon, which will boost Death's damage and critical damage stats. It has a steeper unlock requirement, only available to those who completed the first game.
Both items will unlock based on a player's achievements or trophies, so a Darksiders save file is not required. This also means that the items will only be available to the account that unlocked the necessary achievements or trophies.
The story of Darksiders 2 will run parallel to that of the first Darksiders game. Players will take on the role of the horseman Death as he travels through the Abyss to redeem his brother War and undo the apocalypse.
The game was originally due to launch on June 29, but was pushed back until an unspecified point in August.
The delay is said to have nothing to do with the recent spate of job cuts following THQ's financial troubles.
Darksiders 2 will release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. A Wii U version is also said to be in development though it does not have a release date yet.
