The 19-year-old has been charged with grand larceny after scamming a gold farmer out of 5 billion coins, The NY Post reports.
After attempting to pay for the currency with counterfeit cash, the teen pulled a fake gun on the seller and coerced him to transfer the funds into his account.
The incident was captured on a security camera, and the offender has been charged with second-degree robbery on top of the larceny accusation. He could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
RuneScape developer Jagex does not permit the sale of in-game currency, but there is no word on the gold seller facing charges.
RuneScape launched back in 2001, and has approximately 10 million active accounts. It is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest free MMORPG and most updated game.
