The game will take place during a civil war in Orlais, a French-themed location on the continent of Thedas, suggests a BioWare Social forum user.
As an Inquisitor, players will travel to Orlais to investigate the cause of the conflict, choosing to send in armies, spies or use political tactics to uncover the truth.
The civil war is said to stem from a plot to release hordes of demons across the land, orchestrated by a shadowy and corrupt individual.
It is also said to feature co-operative multiplayer, and will release with one of the following subtitles, which are being rated as part of the poll: The Breach, Exarch, Inquisition, Inquisitor, or Apocrypha.
Users will have the choice to play as either a rogue, warrior or mage, and will be able to pick from a crew made up of up to "ten complex companions to lead them against those who attack you by systematically spying on, revealing and destroying them".
BioWare is also yet to officially confirm Dragon Age 3, although it was said to be announcing it at last week's gamescom Expo, alongside Half Life 3.
The most recent addition to the series, Dragon Age 2, was released for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 in March last year.
