The world's first ever LGBT gamer conference has been confirmed, after easily hitting the revenue target on Kickstarter.

GaymerCon has currently raised over $73,000 (£46,000) in donations, comfortably beating its target of $25,000 (£15,792).

The event is described on the fundraising page as "the first gaming and tech convention with a focus on LGBT geek culture... a convention where all types of geeks can come together, meet others like them, and have a blast without having to worry about what their peers think of them or being discriminated against".

GaymerCon organiser Matt Conn has previously responded to some of the event's critics, who argue that it is creating division in the gaming world.

Conn told VentureBeat.com: "I don't think that this removes them from the greater community. I think that just gives them an additional community that can be of interest."

The Kickstarter page will still be accepting donations until September 1, with the first annual GaymerCon set to take place in summer 2013.
