Other outlets are slightly cheaper, with Amazon, Tesco and ShopTo offering the system for around £250, £280-300 and £330 for the respective console editions.

Nintendo traditionally doesn't set the price of its systems in Europe, which could mean that prices will drop before launching as it did with the 3DS earlier this year.

In the US, the basic 8GB bundle will be priced at $299.99, while the Premium set will be priced at $349.99 and include a black Wii U console with 32GB of memory and a copy of Nintendo Land.
New Super Mario Bros Wii U was also confirmed as a launch title, alongside Rayman Legends, ZombiU and FIFA 13.

Bayonetta 2, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Black Ops 2 were also announced at the conferences in Europe and the US.

The news follows the earlier announcement that the Wii U will launch on December 8 in Japan.
