Similar to the PS3 offering, users will have access to free games, discounts on DLC and downloadable titles, and 1GB of cloud storage for game saves.

The service also provides automatic game and system updates, as well as automatic Trophy synchronisation.

Sony will reveal launch dates and Instant Game Collection details in the coming weeks.

Unveiled during Sony's Tokyo Game Show conference, the news followed the earlier announcement of a Super Slim PS3.

The PS3 Super Slim is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the current model and will be available in different sizes depending on the region.
