The enhanced port of the PS2 game will be available to download from the PlayStation Store on October 30 in North America and the following day in Europe.
The announcement is accompanied by a new trailer from this week's Tokyo Game Show.
Made up of in-game footage, the latest video introduces players to some of the game's supporting cast, enemies and locations.
The upgrade will feature full 1080p visuals, trophies, and support for the PlayStation Move controller similar to the Wii version released in 2008.
Okami HD, which is being ported by Capcom and HexaDrive, can be downloaded for £15.99 in Europe and $19.99 in North America.
Okami has players control the sun goddess Amaterasu reborn as a white wolf to restore light and colour to the land. Players use the celestial brush to summon objects, attack enemies or paint on the landscape in a world rendered to resemble a classic Japanese watercolour painting.
The game launched near the end of the PS2's life cycle in 2006 followed by a port for the Wii in 2008. A sequel, Okami-den, released on the Nintendo DS in 2010.
