Writing on Twitter, the Ecco the Dolphin director said that chances of a new game were high, before confirming that the original's composer was on board.
"Ecco fans, I need you to follow & tweethank @scottfoe, he convinced SEGA to meet with me now chances of a new Ecco the Dolphin x100!" reads one tweet.
"Spencer is on board! (puttn' the band back together!) :)," he added.
He also tweeted that it was nice to see "BAD dolphin doodles" on his office white board again.
Originally released in 1992 for the Sega Mega Drive, Ecco the Dolphin was later made available on Windows, Game Gear and Master System with additional levels.
The game spawned various sequels, including 1994's Ecco: The Tides of Time, Ecco Jr in 1995 and Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, which was released on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000.
