'Total War: Rome 2' first gameplay trailer released

By
Total War: Rome 2 has been given its first gameplay trailer by Creative Assembly.

The debut gameplay footage is taken from the Siege of Carthage, which features combat on both land and sea.

The video demonstrates the game's new graphics engine, as well as the scale of what Creative Assembly describes as the "biggest real-time battles in the series' history".

Announced earlier this year, Total War: Rome 2 will enable players to forge empires, restore the Republic, or become a hated tyrant out for self gratification.

The game is said to be a completely scalable experience, allowing users to play the title regardless of their PC specifications.

It is scheduled for a 2013 release exclusively on the PC.

The original Rome: Total War released for the PC in 2004.

The game was extremely well received by critics, winning numerous awards during its debut year.

Recent release Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai topped the PC chart during its first week on sale in March.

Fellow Total War releases, such as Napoleon: Total War and Empire: Total War have also proved popular.
