Sales for all PS3 models were up 138% over the previous week, according to GfK Chart-Track.
The super slim system, which was only released on Friday, September 28, accounted for 37% of sales.
The 500GB model is priced at around £230 or £250 when bundled with a game, such as this week's blockbuster release FIFA 13.
Another version of the slim system, a more family-friendly model with a 12GB SSD hard drive, will retail for under £200 on October 12.
Unveiled at a pre-Tokyo Game Show conference, the heavily-rumoured system is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the current slim model that was unveiled in 2009.
The first rumours of a more compact PS3 emerged after documents that Sony filed with the Federal Communications Commission appeared to show a smaller, slimmer iteration of the console.
