"We've had a great response to our early call for Closed Beta applicants, and now we're ready to move on to the next stage - inviting some of you to take part in testing Marvel Heroes," said community director Stephen Reid.
"This is a huge moment for the development team here at Gazillion, who have been working overtime to bring the game up to a level where we're ready to get some Marvel Heroes fans - that's you - to do some testing."
Reid revealed that the first invitees will be a "very exclusive, small number of people", but additional beta keys will be distributed later this month at New York Comic Con.
Marvel Heroes will be a free-to-play MMORPG in the similar vein to DC Universe Online. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, the game sees players take control of superheroes including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Scarlet Witch as they interact with a virtual Marvel Universe.
Marvel Heroes is in development for PC with a release date yet to be announced.
