Catherine, Johann Sebastian Joust and Proteus make up the remainder of the nominees.

The GameCity Prize launched last year, mooted as the equivalent of the Mercury, Turner and Booker prizes for gaming. It aims to acknowledge games of "cultural validity, accessibility and all round champion the industry".

The GameCity7 judges asked for nominations from users, either in the form of an essay, music or art to recognise their nominee.

From those nominations, an initial list of 18 titles released over the last year was assembled.

Chaired by filmmaker Lord Puttnam, judges include comic artist and writer Dave Gibbons, UK designer Wayne Hemingway, actor and comedian Charlie Higson and BBC Radio DJ Jo Whiley.

The winner of the GameCity Prize will be announced on Wednesday, October 24 as part of GameCity7.

  • Johann Sebastian Joust - Die Gute Fabrik
