Lionhead Studios hit with layoffs after 'Fable: The Journey' launch

By
Microsoft has announced layoffs for Lionhead Studios now that the developer has finished Fable: The Journey.

The staff redundancies will make up less than 10% of the studio's employees, according to Microsoft, and the firm plans to help affected employees find new positions elsewhere within Microsoft.

"Following the completion of Fable: The Journey, Lionhead Studios has begun work on its next projects," Microsoft said.

"As is common in the games industry, a smaller headcount is needed as projects kick off and ramp up as full production gets underway. At this time a small number of positions have been identified as at risk of redundancy and the affected employees were notified today.

"We are working very closely with those people during this difficult time, to help them explore alternative opportunities within Microsoft - including new roles at Microsoft Studios which is growing in the UK and actively hiring across all locations, including Lionhead, Rare, Soho Productions and our recently announced new studio in London."

While Microsoft is reducing Lionhead's staff, the company is looking to expand its employee count across all UK studios by over 100 people by June 2013. The possible bright side is that with so many openings across Microsoft's UK studios, those recently laid off from Lionhead will hopefully find new positions soon.

Lionhead's latest Kinect adventure Fable: The Journey launched last week on Xbox 360.
