Similar to Doodle Jump, the iOS game sees players guide Sonic up a series of platforms using tilt controls.
Stages feature a number of signature elements from the Sonic franchise, including collectable rings, TV item boxes, spike pits and enemy Badniks.
The game is split into two modes: Story and Arcade. Starting at Green Hill Zone, Story sees players play through a series of short levels, all of which have a pre-set layout and feature three Star Rings to find.
Arcade, meanwhile, has longer stages where players compete in leaderboards and attempt to defeat Dr Robotnik in order to unlock new worlds.
Players will also be given a series of ongoing objectives that provide experience. Examples include completing a level in under 40 seconds, and jumping on a single platform more than ten times.
Experience boosts player rank, allowing new content to be available in the store, including new playable characters such as Tails and Knuckles.
Meanwhile, rings that are collected in stages can be used to purchase one-time use items.
Power-ups include Magnets that absorb nearby rings, a Shield that protects the player from enemies and spike pits, and a 'Bounce Back' item that acts as a safety net if they hit the bottom of the screen.
Additional rings can also be purchased using real currency, with 2,500 rings costing 99p.
Future updates will see new characters become available after release, alongside the possibility of additional playable characters.
Sonic Jump will be available on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch tomorrow (October 18) for £1.49 ($1.99).
