Nintendo has since responded, stating: "Wii U stock levels will be tight on day one.
"However, we will be providing retailers with regular stock deliveries in the run-up to Christmas in order to meet demand as quickly as possible."
It was previously reported that the Wii U will be sold at a loss in order to reach its sales target of 5.5 million this fiscal year.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata stated at the time: "Manufacturing costs are expensive, and we priced the machine at a level customers would accept."
The Wii U will launch on November 18 in North America and November 30 in Europe.
