'New Super Mario Bros U' challenge mode, features detailed

By
New Super Mario Bros U will feature a new challenge mode.

Challenge mode will give players specific conditions to complete levels. They will fall under five categories including time attack, coin collection, 1-up rally and special miscellaneous challenges for single players, and boost mode challenges for two players.

Boost mode challenges will let one player use the Wii U GamePad; they can draw special boost blocks onto the level to help players collect hard to reach coins.

Some examples of challenges include finishing a level without collecting a single coin or finishing without touching the ground. The game will record your successful challenge runs as videos, which can be shared with friends.

There will also be a new coin battle mode, allowing up to four players to compete for who can collect the most coins on a given stage.

There will even be special levels for coin battle mode, where a player can draw and save their own coin layouts using the Wii U GamePad.

New Super Mario Bros U will hearken back to the SNES classic Super Mario World for its world map, using a single overworld map for the entire game rather than breaking each world into its own map.

The more open world map will allow for levels with multiple exits to unlock new secrets and alternate routes for a less linear level progression.

The game will also introduce a new character, a rabbit named Nabbit who players will see enter levels from the overworld map.

Entering the same level as Nabbit will give players a chance to catch the speedy thief, which will be the only way to collect the powerful P-acorn power-up.

P-acorns give Mario an improved version of the new flying squirrel suit which will allow him to fly continuously across the entire level.

Nintendo recently removed its claim that the game will run in 1080p, instead listing it as simply "high definition".

New Super Mario Bros U is confirmed to be one of the Wii U's launch titles, releasing alongside the console on November 18 in North America and November 30 in Europe.
