Latest 'Shrek' movie enjoys game treatment

Everyone's favourite green ogre is back in May when Shrek 3 hits the cinema and consoles after publisher Activision confirmed it is working on a video game version of the film.

Shrek the Third will be released across all formats except PlayStation 3 and will see players interact with characters from the film as well as new characters exclusive to the game. Gamers will travel through 20 move-based and game-exclusive levels such as Academy Grounds, Pirate Ship and more.

The game will see the player adventure as Shrek and his friends to save Far Far Away in a fairy tale from the movie and beyond. Fans play as their favourite heroes from the film: Shrek, Donkey, Puss-in-Boots, Fiona, Fiona’s rebellious cousin Arthur and her fellow fairy tale heroine Sleeping Beauty.

Much of the gameplay will, according to Activision, "see players challenged to rescue pals, face off against Charming’s henchmen, gather collectibles, test their gaming skills in numerous boss fights and engage in various single-player and multiplayer mini-games".

Shrek the Third will also feature six multiplayer mini-games including Castle Attack, Shrekleboard, Frog Herder, Shooting Gallery, Catacombs Leap and Ships Ahoy.
