First Star Software and HeroCraft will co-publish the title for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch platforms following its launch on 3DS earlier this year.
The iOS version of the game will retain the same gameplay as the previous editions, with players collecting treasures across more than 100 stages while avoiding traps and enemies.
"We at HeroCraft remember spending hours in front of our screens trying to escape those falling boulders and having a great time of it," said HeroCraft CEO Pavel Prokonich.
"We hope iOS users will enjoy digging into this amazingly fun gameplay just as millions of players before them have for close to 30 years."
The original Boulder Dash was released in 1984 and has appeared on multiple devices over the years, including the Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and NES.
Boulder Dash-XL, already available on Xbox Live, 3DS and PC, will debut on the App Store "soon".
