'Battlefield 1942' now free-to-play for 10th anniversary

By
Battlefield 1942 is now free-to-play through Origin, EA has announced.

The Battlefield Twitter account revealed that the move to make the classic shooter free-to-play is in honour of the game's 10th anniversary and reaching two million Battlefield Premium subscribers.

It also marks the first time that Battlefield 1942 is available through Origin, EA's game distribution service and social network.

Battlefield 1942 was the first game in what has become a long-running series for EA. The class-based first-person shooter took place during the battles of World War II, and first introduced the Conquest multiplayer mode that has become a defining part of the series.

The most recent game in the series, Battlefield 3 is set to receive its fourth DLC expansion 'Aftermath' in December, followed by the final expansion 'End Game' next March.

Download Battlefield 1942 for free through Origin now.
