"We're trying to think of ways of play that are different from New Super Mario Bros 2, but we haven't made anything yet," producer Takashi Tekuza revealed during an Iwata Asks session.

Recent 3DS release New Super Mario Bros 2 has been supported with new challenges and speed runs.

New Super Mario Bros U is confirmed to be one of the Wii U's launch titles, releasing alongside the console on November 18 in North America and November 30 in Europe.

The game includes a number of multiplayer modes, including Boost Rush, Coin Battle and Challenge, as well as a traditional single-player campaign.

The title can be played on the system's GamePad if and when the television is in use.
