'Black Ops 2' is number one in charts, fails to beat 'Modern Warfare'

Black Ops 2 is the biggest-selling video game launch of the year and the fourth-biggest of all time.

Treyarch's latest release shoots to the top of the all-format weekly chart, knocking Halo 4 down to second and FIFA 13 to third.

However, despite the impressive sales, it failed to outperform fellow Call of Duty titles Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 at launch, according to Eurogamer.

Activision announced that Black Ops 2 was the highest-earning release in the series to date, generating $500 million, but failed to disclose specific sales figures.

Last week's number one Halo 4 also failed to outsell previous title in the series Halo 3 and Halo: Reach.

Meanwhile, the second-highest new entry is The Sims 3: Seasons at nine, while PlayStation Vita spinoff Black Ops: Declassified debuts at 16, despite receiving negative reviews.

Fellow new releases Wonderbook: Book of Spells, F1 Race Stars and Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed fail to make the top 20, charting at 25, 26 and 27 respectively.
