The ZombiU app is compatible with the iPhone and iPad and provides information about the virus and its origins.
It also features a video recorder function, enabling users to leave emergency messages for friends.
The infection simulation, meanwhile, enables users to take a picture of themselves and witness the seven stages of zombification, along with a description of the symptoms.
Results can be posted to Facebook and Twitter, while videos can be uploaded to YouTube.
Announced at E3, ZombiU is a survival horror game where players must make their way through a zombie-infected London to reach the safe zone.

In addition to the single-player campaign, multiplayer will put one player in control of the zombie horde against a human opponent fighting for control of the map.
Confirmed as a Wii U launch title, ZombiU is out now in North America, and will be available on November 30 in Europe.
