'LEGO Lord of the Rings' hands-on video: Fighting Sauron

By and Andrew Laughlin
LEGO Lord of the Rings launches this week on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Digital Spy goes hands-on with the upcoming adventure game based on the acclaimed fantasy movies, playing the opening mission at the Battle of Dagorlad, including a battle against Sauron himself.

Announced earlier this year, LEGO Lord of the Rings encompasses the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy and features co-op multiplayer.

For the first time in the LEGO series, LEGO Lord of the Rings will feature actual dialogue taken from the films and performed by the original actors.

Traveller's Tales's last game, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, also featured voiced dialogue, but this will be the first LEGO game using original voices from the source material.

Elsewhere, Middle-earth is an explorable hub world, allowing players to roam freely and complete side-objectives.

A new backpack system will allow players to store special items found during the adventure, granting characters new abilities that they may not otherwise possess.

First impressions suggest that this is the "most ambitious LEGO game yet", with "a visually rich, fleshed-out hub environment packed with content". Digitai Spy's full review will be published this Friday (November 23).

LEGO Lord of the Rings is out now in North America and out tomorrow (November 23) in Europe.
