PS3 launch scrapped amid police fears

After a consultation with the Metropolitan Police, high-street games retailer GAME has dropped plans to launch the PlayStation 3 at midnight this Friday.
The firm has moved the launch forward to Friday daytime at its flagship Oxford Street store after police expressed fears concerning late night use of public transport.
Anna Macario, GAME’s Marketing Director, said, “The launch of the PS3 is a big deal to our customers. We are managing the launch so it is safe for them, and the only thing they have to concentrate on is securing their new console.”
Macario added, "Following consultation with the Metropolitan Police and given the high value of the PS3 consoles, GAME, the UK’s number one video games retailer has put its customer’s safety first and made the decision to open the store at 7am. This will guarantee gamers have access to public transport so they can easily and safely transport their consoles home in daylight."
GAME will be inviting the first 150 gamers who have pre-ordered the PlayStation 3 to the store at 7am on Friday, March 23. Customers will be greeted with bacon butties, pastries and coffee and will have the chance to claim Sony goodie bags whilst awaiting their turn to collect their PS3. After 9am the store will be open for all GAME customers.
