Titled the 'Crimson Map Pack', it will include the three new multiplayer maps Wreckage, Harvest and Shatter.

Wreckage is a mid-sized asymmetrical map with oddly placed debris to provide lots of cover and hiding spots. It supports 16 players in infinity slayer or 12 players in other modes including capture the flag, king of the hill, regicide and oddball.

Harvest is a smaller map, forcing players into close quarters while also providing ample sniper locations. It will support 12 players in capture the flag, infinity slayer, king of the hill, SWAT and slayer pro.

Shatter is a large asymmetrical map with an emphasis on using vehicles like the warthog and mantis as well as underground mining tunnels. It supports 16 players in infinity slayer and 12 players in other modes including capture the flag, king of the hill, dominion and the new extraction game type.

Extraction is a new multiplayer mode that will begin appearing in matchmaking when the Crimson Map Pack releases. It is a five vs five objective-based mode where teams must find extraction points on the map and protect beacons at those locations to earn points.

Users who purchase the 'Crimson Map Pack' will have access to a special matchmaking playlist that only features the new maps. The premium playlist will also feature six vs six matches and a wide range of voting options. It will be the only way to play the new Extraction game type.

As was previously leaked, the 'Crimson Map Pack' will arrive on Xbox Live from December 10, and will be priced at 800 MS Points.

The 'Majestic Map Pack' will arrive second with a scheduled date of February 25, while the 'Castle Map Pack' DLC is slated for April 1.

The DLC is included as part of the War Games Map Pass, which is priced at 2000 Microsoft Points (£17/$25).

Halo 4 was released earlier this month, with its launch accompanied by an extravagant aerial performance in London.

The game is set four years after the events of Halo 3, marking the return of iconic hero Master Chief and representing the beginning of a brand new saga.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Halo 4 features a robust multiplayer offering through War Games, which will take place on the Spartan training ship Infinity and will tie into the game's story.

The game experienced a number of server issues at launch, including connection, matchmaking and ranking problems.
