A 100,000 Strong for Timesplitters 4 Facebook group is saying that Crytek has given permission to make a TimeSplitters mod using the studio's CryEngine.

"I have just had word from Crytek that they are going to permit and support a TimeSplitters CryEngine mod," group administrator Daniel Wesoly said.
"I am now looking for modders that can handle the CryEngine. If I manage to get a group together, then they may let us use assets from the original TimeSplitters game!"
The group now hopes to assemble a team of developers to create a mod with all of the levels, characters and weapons from the three TimeSplitters games.
Wesoly previously created a petition asking Crytek to create a TimeSplitters HD Collection. CEO and president Cevat Yerli backed the petition, saying he would love to see it happen but it made for a difficult business decision.
With Crytek endorsing a fan-created TimeSplitters mod, an official HD collection of the series seems unlikely. It is rare for a major studio to sanction fans to recreate their games, and practically unheard of for a studio to offer original game assets in support.
TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design was purchased by Crytek in 2009. The company has firmly denied that a new TimeSplitters is in development.
Earlier this year Crytek also hinted that TimeSplitters could return as a free-to-play game in the future.
