'Gears of War' to become movie
New Line Cinema, the company behind global box office hit Lord of the Rings, has bought the rights to the Xbox 360 best-seller Gears of War.

After selling over three million copies to date, Gears of War has proven to be one of the most popular titles on the Microsoft console and New Line Cinema hopes it can turn many of these gamers into cinema goers.

While most movies that have evolved from video games have proved to be less that poor in terms of quality, producer Marty Bowen believes the Gears of War movie will be different.

"We're not going to do a to a lowest-common-denominator movie", said Bowen in an interview with Reuters. "We're going to attempt to elevate it. And we're starting off by having an A-list writer doing it."

Lead game designer Cliff Bleszinski is working with renowned screenwriter Stuart Beattie, famed for his work on the Tom Cruise hit 'Collateral', to write the script.
