The feature introduces a reformatted full-screen option for the Steam client that users can easily navigate with a controller on a television screen.
Big Picture Mode can be run on any PC with Steam, but is designed to best run with the PC connected to a television using an HDMI cord.
The update will also provide what Valve calls a "first-person web browser" and a unique Daisywheel on-screen keyboard, both of which are optimised to make typing and web browsing easier with a controller.
Big Picture Mode has previously only been available as a beta, but will now be available to all Steam users with a Windows PC or Mac OS X 10.7 or higher.
To mark the launch of Big Picture Mode, Steam is holding a sale on 37 titles that are optimised for a controller, including Mark of the Ninja, Portal 2, Orcs Must Die 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Steam Big Picture Mode will automatically be added to the Steam client through a free update today.
