The 2D platform game, which was originally planned as a Wii U launch title, will be released throughout Europe on March 1.
Meanwhile, a playable demo, which was also scheduled for the Wii U's launch, will now be available through the Nintendo eShop on December 13.
Ubisoft officially unveiled the much-rumoured title during its E3 press conference.
The game features new playable characters such as Murphy, who is controlled using the GamePad.
Players swipe the tablet's screen to control Murphy, using him to clear a path for Rayman to traverse and take out enemies.
Multiplayer mode is included for up to five players, as well as support for standard Wii Remotes.
So far only announced for the Wii U, Rayman Legends developer Ubisoft has not ruled out a multi-platform release for the title.
