Users will be able to control the ESPN app completely from their smartphone or tablet, as the update will have the option of moving the app's interface to the SmartGlass screen.
Users will be able to pick highlights to watch and switch game streams using their smartphone or tablet, with the television showing a full screen display of the selected video.
The ESPN app will receive its SmartGlass update later this month, with other sports league apps to receive similar updates shortly after.
Released in October, the latest Xbox 360 dashboard update introduced Xbox SmartGlass and Xbox Music, and rebranded Zune Marketplace as Xbox Video.
SmartGlass is available through Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 tablets as well as Android and iOS devices through a dedicated app.
