'Dark Souls 2' to feature 'hyper-realistic visuals, vehicles'

By
Dark Souls 2 will contain 'hyper-realistic' visuals and vehicles including chariots, it has been reported.

An early demo of the game has been described by Edge as an "athletic leap forward in terms of graphical fidelity".
Comparing the game's visuals to those of Watch Dogs and Star Wars 1313, Dark Souls 2 is said to look "effortlessly ready for the next generation of consoles", coming "tantalisingly close" to hyper-realism.

The game's director Tomohiro Shibuya said that the concept of time was key to the game and that the addition of vehicles would help make it stand out from its predecessors.

"We want to constantly think of something new that hasn't been tried before, so that's where that idea [of the chariot] came up," Shibuya explained.

"Being in a ship or boat is definitely something we are considering but being able to control one is not in the works."

Announced at the Spike Video Game Awards, Dark Souls 2 will not take place in the world of Lordran, but in an environment roughly the same size.

The game's Covenant system will reportedly be "clearer" and "more accessible" this time around, and a Morality system will be incorporated.

Dark Souls 2 is in the works for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. A fan petition to bring the game to Nintendo Wii U has also been launched.
