"Many of my friends know I'm a gamer, but I guess after this they'll realise just how passionate and obsessed I am!" he said.

The collection is now said to be worth in excess of $100,000 (£62,000).

The recognition of 'Largest Collection of Videogame Memorabilia' is one of many new records in this year's Guinness World Records 2013 Gamer's Edition, out today (January 10).

"It's been a fantastic year for gaming, with incredible records broken by players from all walks of life," said the book's writer Kevin Lynch.

"Gaming is a hugely important part of popular culture and this year's Gamer's Edition reflects that."

Last year, a collection of games themselves - including every title for Sega systems and Nintendo titles on the NES through to GameCube - was sold for £793,000 / $1.23 million.
