'Capcom Arcade Cabinet Collection' coming to XBLA, PSN

By
Capcom Arcade Cabinet: Retro Game Collection has been announced for XBLA and PSN.

Releasing to commemorate Capcom's 30th anniversary, the series will focus on arcade games from the '80s, such as Black Tiger, Commando and 1942.

Capcom's Kenji Kataoka told Polygon that the series would focus on games that helped to establish the company and that each title would be faithfully recreated, right down to glitches and bugs.

"You used to have arcade games ported to the NES and such and wind up being completely different titles on that platform, but that's not the case here," explained Kataoka.

"Even if there were bugs in the original, we've kept them in there if we felt we needed to in order to retain the original feel of the game."

Additional options and game modes will be provided, however, enabling users to adjust the strength of attacks and alter collision detection.

The distribution model is yet to be finalised, although it's believed that the arcade cabinet itself will be released as a free download, alongside one game.

"We'll be releasing a free starter pack of sorts that lets you play one title to the end," Kataoka revealed.

"We're still debating how we'll distribute the other titles, but one plan we have in mind is to have packs of multiple games available for really surprisingly cheap prices.

"I think we'll have the demo out before too long, and we're setting up the distribution schedule for the rest of the games such that we'll be keeping players entertained for a while to come."

Capcom released two Classics Collections on the original Xbox and PS2. A number of the firm's classic titles, including Final Fight, are also available on XBLA and the Virtual Console.
