Although the critically-acclaimed rock'n'roll fest Guitar Hero II has only just been released, developer RedOctane has revealed that a third edition of the game is already in development.
Guitar Hero 3, which is being created for PS2, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii, is due out in the US this autumn, though publisher Activision was unable to comment on its UK release schedule.
There is little detail on the new incarnation as yet, but industry snoops believe it will feature a new PlayStation 3 guitar, a Wii peripheral and will be wireless next time round.
The news comes after Guitar Hero developer Harmonix revealed it is helping EA to create its new Rock Band game, which will allow players to use drum, microphone, lead and rhythm guitar peripherals.
