Some retailers in North America have took the 20Gb PlayStation 3 off their virtual shelves, according to reports by online trade site Gamesindustry.biz.
While the system is still on sale at some retailers, including amazon.com, sites including Sony's own official online store SonyStyle now only offer the 60Gb version.
Sony spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka said, "The line-up at SonyStyle is decided based on market demand and so it's not surprising that they are not selling it on their website. But if you go to a retailer you can find it."
But SonyStyle isn't the only online US e-tailer which has stopped selling the 20GB PS3. Major sites such as Best Buy, GameStop and Electronics Boutique have also taken it off their lists.
The 20GB PlayStation 3 is not available in the UK, where the 60GB model launched on March 23. Sony has yet to confirm whether both machines will eventually be made available.
Speaking to trade site GamesIndustry.biz after news emerged that US e-tailers were ceasing to stock the 20GB model, a Sony spokesperson said, "We'll continue to monitor demand for the 20GB model, from a consumer and retailer perspective, which will be factored into any future European launch plans."
