By
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen will be released in April, Capcom has announced.

The Dragon's Dogma expansion will premiere on April 23 in North America and April 26 in Europe. The news is accompanied by a new trailer exploring the game's updated story.

Available on disc and as a digital download for PS3, the expansion is priced at £19.99. The Xbox 360 version will initially be available in disc format only, with a Games on Demand version releasing in the summer.

Dark Arisen features the original game, alongside a new underground realm, extra missions, enemies, weapons and skills.

Owners of the original will receive 100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones and six brand new costumes upon purchasing the expansion.

Dark Arisen also makes tweaks to the gameplay experience, improving the travel and menu system.

The Dark Arisen contents in full:

  • New underground realm to explore featuring over 25 new enemies
  • More skills/equipment/augments:
  • Level 3 Skills
  • DD:DA provides each character class with a new tier of skills, giving players new devastating abilities and skills to master
  • Over 100 pieces of new equipment
  • All-new high-level weapons and armour sets for players venturing into the underground caverns
  • 14 new character/Pawn augments
  • New tiers of equipment enhancement
  • Increased character customisation options
  • Item appraisal
  • Option to select Japanese voiceover

Dragon's Dogma's story centres around The Arisen, a hero whose fate is tied to a powerful dragon that terrorises the land.

The game sees players adventure across an expansive open world, fighting huge mythical creatures such as a hydra, a manticore and a griffin.

Players are also accompanied by pawns - companion characters who the player can give commands to and use to coordinate attacks.

The game was created by a team that worked on some of Capcom's biggest titles, including Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 4.

Its status as a "major franchise" was confirmed after becoming the 55th Capcom game to ship more than one million units
