The 'Tyranny of King Washington' DLC explores what would have happened if George Washington had become a tyrant.
Part one sees Connor awaken from a dream to discover that Washington has become king, and follows his attempts to dethrone him.
The upcoming expansion will be released as three separate episodes, introducing a brand new single-player campaign taking place in an alternative timeline.
'The Tyranny of King Washington' will be included as part of the Assassin's Creed 3 season pass.
The season pass grants access to five DLC packs including both single-player and multiplayer expansions. It is priced at 2400 MS Points on Xbox 360, or £23.99 ($29.99) on PlayStation 3 and PC.
Individual episodes will be available at 800 Microsoft points (£6.80/$10) or £7.99 ($9.99).
All DLC will also be available individually for the Wii U version, though there will not be a Wii U season pass.
Assassin's Creed 3 takes place over a 30-year period in colonial America, beginning in 1777.
It launched alongside PlayStation Vita spinoff Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, which was announced at last year's E3 Gaming Expo.
