'Killzone Mercenary' release date, new details and gameplay trailer

By
Sony has announced new details for the PS Vita shooter Killzone Mercenary, including the release date.

The game will arrive on PlayStation Vita from September 17 in North America, followed by a September 18 release in Europe.

Sony has also put out a new gameplay trailer, showing off the game's new emphasis on earning credits and purchasing new weapons as a mercenary.

The game starts shortly after the events of the first Killzone game, and will offer a new perspective on many of the battles throughout the series.

Players will control a former UCA soldier-turned-mercenary named Arran Danner. On a mission to evacuate the Vektan Ambassador, Danner finds himself protecting the ambassador's son, who will become a central point for the story.

Sony claims that it will offer the "full Killzone experience" taking place across nine missions, with an estimated nine hours of playtime for the single-player campaign.

There will also be a multiplayer mode for up to eight players featuring six maps and three game modes, including the return of Warzone mode.

Players will earn money for every action in both single and multiplayer, with all earnings shared between the two modes for purchasing new weapons and equipment.

The game will also feature Vita-specific controls, such as tilting for precise aiming or "brutal melee" by swiping on the screen.

Killzone Mercenary was announced at gamescom last year, and will release exclusively on PlayStation Vita.
