The footage, revealed by Polygon, was released online along with a host of additional screenshots from the upcoming prequel.
God of War: Ascension will take place before the events of the original trilogy, presenting a more human side of protagonist Kratos, set in a time before his desire for vengeance consumed him.
It will be the first entry in the series to include multiplayer support, enabling up to eight players to compete in a variety of game modes and customise their characters.
Sony recently confirmed that a demo for The Last of Us would be available to customers who purchase God of War: Ascension.
However, the sampler will not be available at launch, but will be released at a later date.
God of War: Ascension will be released for PlayStation 3 on March 12 in North America and on March 13 in Europe.
