'Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14' ditches microtransactions

By
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 will ditch last year's controversial microtransaction model, it has been revealed.

PGA Tour 13's Course Mastery system enabled players to unlock additional on-disc courses by earning in-game coins or by purchasing coins for cash.

Unlocking one of 20 additional courses was a slow process, however, and courses would only remain unlocked after completing challenges, which meant users were often required to pay for them multiple times.

Franchise director Mike DeVault told IGN that this year's release would introduce new courses as DLC.

"We've taken that system out and are using a more traditional DLC approach," said DeVault.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 gives players a choice between 25 playable golfers, including Keegan Bradley, Bud Cauley, Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson.

The game will include 20 full courses on the disc and support motion peripherals PlayStation Move and Kinect on PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively.

It also adds a live weather feed and night golfing, complete with illuminated golf balls.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 will be released on March 26 in North America and March 28 in Europe.
