"Farmville is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience," Ratner said in a statement.

Canadian production company Six Eleven Media is developing the Farmville TV show, which will be based on Zynga's popular social farming game.

No network has yet been linked with the proposed series.

Last year Zynga launched Farmville 2 on Facebook, and also partnered with Hasbro to create a Farmville-themed version of Hungry Hungry Hippos.

Ratner is also directing the 2014 comic book film adaptation of Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson.
