New 'Call of Duty' confirmed for Q4 2013, next-gen 'to impact sales'

By
A new Call of Duty will be released in 2013, Activision has confirmed.

Speaking to investors, Activision CFO Dennis Durkin said that the game would "set the bar for innovation", but warned that sales would likely be impacted by the arrival of next-gen consoles.

"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect a new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher," Durkin explained.

"There is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than during normal uses in the cycle.

"For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the main line release in Q4 to be down versus 2012."

With Black Ops 2 launching last November, this year's release is likely to be a new entry in the Modern Warfare series.

Black Ops 2 was named as the UK's best-selling game of 2012, edging out FIFA 13 at the top.

It was the fastest Call of Duty game to generate $1 billion, securing the amount in just 15 days.

However, it was previously reported that Black Ops 2 sales were down 20% on last year's Call of Duty.

Despite shifting fewer units, Black Ops 2 generated $500 million in 24 hours, making it the highest-earning day-one Call of Duty title to date.

Black Ops 2 is available on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC.
