"In 2010, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Polyphony Digital had commenced development for Gran Turismo 6. We look forward to sharing further details on this title in the near future," reads the Sony statement.
Original Story: Gran Turismo 6 will be released on the PS3 later this year, a senior Sony source has suggested.
Speaking about console longevity and the games still to be released on the PS3, SCEE Senior Vice President Michael Denny told Silicon Republic that Gran Turismo 6 would be among the titles out this year.
"Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 this year, like The Last of Us, Beyond [Two Souls], GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin's Creed, GTA," Denny explained.
"It's important for our content to have that kind of longevity because, as I was saying [about the PS Vita], the games that come through are going to get better and better over time," he added.
Gran Turismo 6 was first teased in 2010, with project lead Kazunori Yamauchi saying that fans "won't have to wait as long" for it as the last game.
Yamauchi went on to confirm its development in 2011, but has failed to provide platform information beyond hints suggesting it will release on the PS4 and Vita.
The PlayStation Vita version has been rumoured since the discovery of an online poll to gauge customer interest in the title.
Gran Turismo 6 was absent from last week's PS4 reveal in New York, with Sony-owned Evolution Studios unveiling DriveClub instead.
