The Xbox Entertainment Awards website is breached.

Details such as names, Gamertags, email addresses and birthdays of over 2,800 users were visible and could be freely edited or removed.

Microsoft has since taken the site offline, saying that it is "currently experiencing technical difficulties" and is investigating the issue.

Going live earlier this week, the Xbox Entertainment Awards asks its community of users to vote on the best games, DLC, TV, movies and music of the past year.

All voters are entered into a prize draw to win a Limited Edition Xbox 360 Halo 4 console, Kinect, Gold membership and 2000 Microsoft Points.

Finalists in each category will be revealed on April 9, with interactive voting on the Xbox 360 dashboard taking place until April 16.

Xbox 360 will receive an exclusive release, prequel shooter Gears of War: Judgment, this week in North America and Europe.
