Adam Orth tweeted that he doesn't understand the "drama" around the idea of devices having to always be connected, which has been heavily rumoured to feature in Microsoft's next console.

Microsoft Studios creator director Adam Orth shares his opinions on always-on connections.

When asked by BioWare designer Manveer Heir whether any lessons were learned from SimCIty and Diablo 3's troubled launches, Orth replied: "Electricity goes out too."

Another response asked about those outside of connected places such as San Francisco and LA, to which Orth responded: "Why would I live there?"

Orth has received a backlash over the comments and has since protected his Twitter account, but not before a record of his messages were saved online.

Development kits for the new Xbox were recently reported to be covered with intersecting black and white stripes.

GameStops CEO recently praised Microsoft's next console, calling it a "hot, compelling device".

It is thought that Xbox 720 will be revealed this month, and will be launching later this year.
